Unbelievable! Mobile phone bans for unmarried women in a Gujarat village

It must be seen in the light of women empowerment in Gujarat, l controversial news from Gujarat, that a village of Gujarat bans mobile phones for unmarried women, though gujarat based Prime Minister Narendra Modi passionately promoting his Digital India drive across the world.

In a Khap panchayat-like diktat, Suraj village near Ahmedabad decided to fine women Rs 2,100 for possessing or using a mobile phone. Not only that, they also declared that the informer will get Rs 200 as reward.

Suraj village sarpnach Devshi Vankar said "Why do girls need cell phone ? Internet is a waste of time and money for a middle-class community like us.

Girls should better utilise their time for study and other works,"The only exception to the rule is if someone wants to talk to a girl, her parents can pass on their phones for conversation. Vankar also announced that the "entire population of 2,500", including various castes, "welcomed the decision".

Suraj village compulsory the ban on February 12 but it may spread to other parts of north Gujarat as the politically influential Thakor community initiated a drive to extend the restriction, with support of other OBC communities such as the Vankar and Rabari. The inspiration of the mobile phone ban for women can be traced to an alcohol de-addiction drive by the Thakors that mainly aimed at men. As the drive progressed, the people came out with rules and regulations for women's lifestyle.

The Community leaders felt that just like liquor, the use of cell phones by unmarried women created a nuisance in society.

In January, Ludar in Banaskantha district was the first village to put into practice such a ban.

The community vowed to intensify the drive against alcohol de-addiction as well as cell phones by making resolutions during meetings being organized in rural parts of the state's northern belt.'Raikarnji Thakor, a community leader from north Gujarat said that "Alcohol consumption by men and cell phone use by women create a lot of disturbance in society.

Young girls get misguided. It can break families and ruin relationship,""It (the ban) is the villagers' idea only," he added.

India's most affordable phone - Freedom 251priced at Rs 251 ...

NEW DELHI: Domestic handset maker Ringing Bells will launch India's most affordable smartphone for under Rs 500 later this week, a move that is set to disrupt the booming handset market in the country.

The launch is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for "empowering India to the last person, transforming India's growth story", the Noida-based company said. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikkar will launch the smartphone 'Freedom 251' on February 17.

Freedom 251 , touted as India’s most
affordable smartphone, has launched in India today. As the name suggests, this ultra- affordable 3G smartphone is priced at only Rs 251.

Noida-based Ringing Bells Pvt. Ltd is the company behind this smartphone, and it says that this new smartphone is in line with the Indian government’s Make in India, Digital India and Skill India programs.

Booking for this smartphone starts 18th February at 6:00AM, and the window will be open till February 21, 8:00PM.

"The phone will be popularly priced at Rs. 251 and the launch stands as a true testimony of success of the latest initiatives taken by the Government of India," according to a media invite sent by the firm.

At present, smartphones available in the market are priced around Rs 1,500. Last year, DataWind had announced that it is teaming up with Anil Ambani-owned Reliance Communications (RCOM) to launch the world's most affordable smartphone, priced at Rs 999. The phone is yet to hit the market.

Established last year, Ringing Bells will start with the assembly of handsets in Phase-I and aims at full indigenous development of the feature-rich smartphones, it said. It did not disclose any other details about manufacturing, products and pricing.

A new entrant in the Indian mobile phone market, Ringing Bells had launched one of India's cheapest 4G smartphone at Rs 2,999, recently. It has also launched two other feature phones in the market.

India, one of the fastest growing smartphone markets globally, is poised to overtake the US as the second-largest market in next few years. In the last few months, global smartphone makers, including the likes of Xiaomi, Motorola and Gionee have commenced assembling their handsets in India, where the government is pushing local manufacturing through its Make in India initiative.

8 ways how a smartphone can help strengthen relationships and not ruin it

Smartphone may have become an integral and indispensable part of our lives, but a recent study reveals how they are having a negative effect on your daily lives. Well, your partner might be quite jealous of your smartphone. And why not? After all, that small little device is stealing all your attention from him or her.

Thanks to the constant notifications, calls, social media and those WhatsApp messages, you are now spending more time with your phone rather than with your loved one. So before your wife goes crazy on you and throw away your costly indispensable piece of you (well smartphones are still costly these days!); it's time you started following these 8 steps to keep your partner happy!

■→ Time for some crazy selfies! #SelfieLove

Selfie craze is catching up. And your partner may probably be as crazy as those other girls. So time you got into the frame and shot a few selfies together! No need to look handsome,
just look cool. Be crazy and capture memories.

■→ Plugin their dying smartphone before bed

Just in case you find your partner's phone displaying a low charge indication before hitting bed, plug them into the nearest charging socket overnight. This will make you partner really happy when they wake up! (oh, yes phones don't burst these days when they are charged overnight)

■→ Share your phone when their dies

Did your partner's phone run out of charge? Well, its time you share your phone with him/her. Allow you to check official mails using your phone. Don't worry he/she won't probably check yours (so rest assured!)

■→ Show them (occasionally) how important they are!

Are you spending some time together after a hard day's work. And now, your phone is vibrating heavily as someone is calling you up. To your utter dismay, you find that 'someone' is your boss. Well, its time you turned the phone screen back off and pay attention to your partner instead. Show them how important they are. (Beware: Your boss may also be reading this!)

■→ Share your Passcode

Trust is one of the pillars of a healthy relationship. Sharing the passcode/pattern of your smartphone with your partner is indeed healthy habit. It will not only build trust, but will also help them feel secured about you. Remember, Sharing is Caring!

■→ Try to pick up their calls even when you are busy!

Busy in office thanks to those deadlines set by the management? Besides that, your smartphone is also ringing. Not it isn't your boss calling again, instead it's your partner. Pick up the call, have a chat, you may feel better. Better off than just ignoring the call and creating further problems (apart from the one created by your boss!) on reaching home.

■→ Teach Rhymes to your new one (on your smartphone!)

Every wife loves to see their husband taking care of their kids. Hence make a good use of YouTube and start taking rhyme classes of your new one on your smartphone itself!

■→ Help your partner with e-Shopping

Flipkarts, Amazons and Snapdeals have changed the way people shop. Well, you and your partner might be shopping using their e-tailers too.

So instead of hopping from one marketplace to another (on the roads), you can now easily sit at your home or office and choose apparels for them! One your done simply ping them on WhatsApp or use the native ping system of the e-tailer app (provided they have it.)

Man gets killed after he goes to celebrate V-Day with Facebook love

Ishwar, a 27-year-old Delhi native decision to come to Gurgaon’s posh Sushant Lok area to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a Facebook friend turned tragic. Ishwar was allegedly assaulted and thrown off from a multi-storied building by two men.

“We had received information from a hospital about a critically injured man, who was admitted here at around 9 pm last night. We rushed there once we got the information. The hospital again called us at around 1 am, saying the man succumbed to his injuries”, said Sandeep Ahlawat, SHO, Sushant Lok Police Station.According to Hawa Singh, CPRO Gurgaon Police, as per the girl’s (victim’s Facebook friend) statement to police, Ishwar was in constant touch with her for the past seven months and he had asked her to celebrate Valentine’s Day together in Gurgaon.

She had received him from Huda City Centre Metro Station on Saturday evening and she took him to a flat multi-storey building in Sushant Lok area.“While they were interacting with each other in the flat, her brother-in-law, identified as Ramesh (30) and his driver Anil Kumar (25) reached there. And, seeing Ishwar there, the duo brutally assaulted him in a fit of rage, and later threw him down from the balcony”, Singh said.

“An FIR in this regard has been lodged against Ramesh and Anil under 302 (murder), 201 (dispersing evidences) and 34 criminal conspiracy in Sushant Lok police station and both the accused have been arrested,” Deepak Saharan, DCP (East) Gurgaon Police said.

Since the victim did not die on the spot, the accused then took him into a car and went to Khandsa Road, situated on the other side of the city, and dumped him on the road to make the case appear as a road accident before fleeing, police said.

This 112-year-old woman's secret to long life is chain smoking

Smoking kills? A 112-year-old Nepalese woman has proven otherwise. In a rather unusual admission, Batuli Lamichhane has claimed that the secret behind her long life is smoking 30 cigarettes a day.

“People of this modern age have too much stress. And those who do not work or are idle in their old age won’t live long. So you have to be active and stress-free.

Born in 1903, Lamichhane who started smoking at the age of 17 and has continued smoking cigarettes for over 95 years said, “There is nothing wrong with smoking.

”However, she advises that “commercially-made” cigarettes should be avoided, the 112-year-old instead recommends locally-made cigarettes called beedis made from wrapped tendu leaf.

“You should always be happy, then you will live a long life,” she said. Lamichhane still takes care of her own chores.

“I don’t really care how old I am. But I am old nonetheless. I have seen a lot of things change during my lifetime,” she added.

Lamichhane has outlived all her four children except for one, her eldest son who is now 85 years old. She claims her husband left for India about 80 years ago to find a job and she hasn’t heard from him since.

She currently lives with relatives and off donations from a nearby Hindu temple, since the roof of her home caved in during the April 2015 earthquake in Nepal.

Amol Palekar's wife writes a letter to Sunny Leone

Amol Palekar's wife, Sandhya Gokhale, has written a letter to Sunny Leone, praising her for tactfully handling the video interview where she was being asked uncomfortable questions. In her letter, she has suggested a few things Sunny could have answered in response to the questions, thus providing her point-of-view on the matter. Here's a copy of the letter

...Hello Sunny,I felt compelled to write to you to applaud your dignified composure throughout the attempted public lynching by an immature, crass interviewer on national television. He tried to abnegate your present; his was a blatant misogyny. His look was torn between personal lust and cultural impairment.

In the very first question about "any regrets about your past life," his implicit agenda became evident - to get a confession of "immoral conduct" from someone who is slotted as the best-selling yet stigmatized sex object!

His ulterior motive was indeed to grab the highest TRP (which otherwise would have remained at the rock bottom). He was itching to expose your vulnerability...

probably to patronize you with his condescending overtures. We all saw how complicit he was in the dissection of your past which he was pruriently condemning. His implication was that while making a "wrong & morally corrupt" career choice, you had walked on a slippery slope. You were gracious enough not to point out to him that he represented all those who accompanied you all through your walk... albeit cowardly and secretly hiding to slacken their orgasmic pleasures. You could've asked, "where are your internalized moral prohibitions when you are with me?" You could've sermonized him on the didactic quality of your work, asking him, "isn't the pedagogy of sex an all time need?"

I'm happy that you didn't take this path as he would've remained sanctimonious, no matter the amount of enlightenment gets poured in his lap... after all as the Arabic adage goes, "It is a goat, even if it flies!"Having said this, one thing you ought to have asked him, "Have you not consumed me?

If no, then ask me any question and let's have a cathartic session. If yes, then let's talk about how and why your channel was mutilated as a result of which you were brought in." His smug face would've been downsized hopefully! Then maybe you could've gently explored whether his ambit of vulgarity/obscenity includes, among others, pimps in the free market, cricket, page 3 trivia, and of course the boot licking chamachas in politics. Had you replied, "I had or have no regrets for being a porn star. I entertained you just like any other star on the big or small screen. In fact I can flaunt the quantum of my repeat audience.

I'm proud that I didn't have to use anyone else's body to hike the TRP or to hit the box office." I wonder how the next 18 minutes of the air time would've been covered!Sunny, I was not at all surprised by his "around the bush" approach. I would've admired him had he interrogated you straight by giving the anti-porn feminist rap about "commoditization or objectification of female body; how it's a systemized degradation, and how it leads to proliferation of sexual violence etc."Since he isn't smart enough to drop names beyond Aamir Khan, you could've quoted scholars like Andrea Dworkin, Catherine McKinnon whose crusade has been to regulate if not eradicate pornography.

There upon throwing Wendy McElroy's name who asserts that pornography benefits women both personally and politically, you could've asked, "If we as feminists believe in "my body, my choice," why cannot pornography within the regulatory limits be my choice?"Sunny, this is a classic duel between individual freedom and social control. The present day hash-tags about intolerance erupt from this very conflict. Where do you draw the line between "allowed" and "offensive"? Who draws that line? Who gives them that right to override your personal liberty? But moral censorship is our forte! In 1950, charges of obscenity were filed against Akbar Padmsee's painting of a naked couple.

Public exhibition of nudity is considered a crime of an "obscene act in a public place." The Judge ruled that since the work was within the premises of an art gallery, it could not be deemed obscene. My point is that your craft has a context and it got to be seen in that context. Besides, pornography is not criminalised in India.

Your situation is actually very unique Sunny. Typically a chosen few hoist the moral flag after which the mob takes over and the majority remain bystanders. All these 3 categories are your fans and not just viewers!

How much they love you and your art got substantiated by the statistics cited by the interviewer. If their joint sessions with you were not enriching and libratory, why would they have visited you time and again? So you can say "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone."Actually they did not cast any stone at you, and in fact expressed their gratitude towards you when they unequivocally lifted the ban on the triple-X internet sites. It is ironical that while lingam and yoni had occupied a respected space in our traditional epics and art, porno-phobia has fractured our contemporary social ethos.

The only concern you will be sharing with them is when the participation in such activities is coerced and non-consensual. When participants are under duress or are incapable of giving their consent (as in case of mentally or physically challenged or intoxicated persons), forcing them is wrong in every sense. Our dispute arises against their omnipotent audacity to claim that the consenting women are so damaged and exploited by the patriarchy that their consent is neither voluntary nor free.

→ If my consent for my adult acts is alleged to be notional,

→ why wont you call a wifes freedom offered by the institution of marriage an illusion?

→ Is a married woman devoid of the patriarchal cultural dictate?

→ Isnt she expected to present her sexy avatar to her divine husband and to surrender?

→ Is it not objectification?

→ When you are reacting to my actions on the screen, dont you think that I AM the owner of my own body?

→ Can you think so about your wife when you are imposing yourself on her?

Irony is that a wifes conduct has to conform to the approved text of patriarchy.

Sunny, you are free of all this hypocrisy. Dont believe in the accusation of married women that you corrupt their husbands as was alleged by the interviewer. He conveniently hid the statistics showing the percentage of female surfers of the porn sites.

By now Sunny you might have understood my intention behind not naming the interviewer as he shall remain a variable representing the misogynist jerks of the world (pun unintended)! Journos will also shy away from publishing this letter claiming "it's outdated".

Are the issues raised here outdated? Moreover, will 'Sunny' the metaphor ever be outdated?Watch: Sunny Leone: India can never have a thriving adult film industry

Man buys 99 iPhones to propose to his girlfriend , Got Rejected

It is never easy to look into the eyes of your partner and ask them for their hand in marriage. One can never tell what could take place in such a
situation. She could take a guy's guitar and use it as a weapon, or perform a simple but effective slap in the face.

This guy didn't get a slap in the face, nor did he receive a guitar to his head. However, he did buy 99 iPhone 6 devices to create the most elaborate
nerd proposal in a long time.

To impress his girlfriend, he carefully
arranged the iPhones into the shape of a heart and bought a bouquet of flowers to make the day more romantic.

The guy managed to use all 99 iPhone 6 handsets to form the outline of a giant heart, which he and his girlfriend would stand in.

Apparently, he thought it was the right time to propose to his girlfriend, looming in the background.

We should point out that the iPhone devices cost the young man a whopping $82,000, so indeed, he must have run the moment of no return a million times through his head before saying this is the
right thing to do.

For our young friend here, however, his girlfriend said no. To make matters worse, his friends and colleagues were at the ceremony, probably hoping to get a free iPhone 6 for all their troubles. They might not have gotten a thing due to her saying
no, so work is going to be awkward for a while.

At the end of the day, we're sure our young little Chinese programmer is crushed, but at least he's the owner of 99 iPhones. If he's wise, he'll resell
these devices and make a lot more than what he spent to purchase them. After all, a recent Chinese study shows that one in five men in the
country would rather have an iPhone than a girlfriend.

Chances are, this issue has a lot to with Siri. She's a sassy one, isn't she? We agree. Our little friend here has 99 problems, but with 99 iPhone 6 devices, not having a girlfriend isn't one of them.

What Happened To This Aircraft At10,000 Feet Will Make You Stick ToTaking Trains

If you're making a list of the worst things that could happen during a flight, a hole being blown in the side of the airplane probably tops it.

While it's an unlikely scenario, this is exactly what happened on a flight that was leaving Somalia's capital city of Mogadishu.

Shortly after liftoff, an explosion
of unknown origin tore a hole in
the side of the plane near the
fuselage.

Luckily, the plane was at a low enough altitude (about 10,000 feet) to make an emergency landing.

Initial news stories reported that at least one person was killed in the explosion, and two more were seriously injured. An official count of casualties, however, has still not been released by authorities.

What we do know is that the majority of the passengers escaped with no serious injuries.

Even scarier than the pictures is this video that was taken shortly after the explosion. It was recorded by Awale Kullane, the U.N. Ambassador of Somalia.

Well, that is utterly terrifying Needless to say, officials are still investigating the cause of the explosion. In the meantime, I suggest that you all pay attention to the in-flight safety demonstration the next time you travel.
