10 killer iPhone 6s tricks you need to know

The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus pack a wide range of new features that are going to take even the most dedicated Apple fans a bit of time to get used to.

People will still be discovering great new features weeks and months from now…

so where should you even start?

Right here, of course.

We have now spent several days with Apple’s new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, and these are the 10 best tips and tricks  we can offer:

Live Photos:

With the Live Photos feature enabled, every time you press the shutter release button to take a photo, the iPhone will not only take a full 12 megapixel still image, but it will also record 1.5 seconds of video both before and after your still image.

This results in a total of three seconds of video footage captured in addition to the still image.

When you view the still image in your camera roll, a long press on the image will play back the three seconds of video footage, complete with sound.

Enable or disable Live Photos by tapping the
button at the center of the top menu bar in the Camera app.

The Live Photos feature is certainly a nifty one, but anyone with a 16GB iPhone 6s or 6s Plus should consider disabling it since the resulting files take up more space than standard photos.

Create your own motion wallpapers:

The new iPhones include a few cool new motion wallpapers that animate when you press firmly on them on the lock screen. But did you know you can create your own motion wallpapers?

This means that practically any photo that you shoot with your camera can become a small moving video if Live Photos is enabled!

• Once, you decide what image is suitable for becoming your next wallpaper.

• simply open the Photos app and browse for it.

• Open the full screen view and scroll to unveil the native footer menu.

• Tap on the Share Sheets button and select Use as Wallpaper from the first row of available  options.

• Drag your finger on the iPhone’s display to
move and/or scale the picture.

• Tap Set when ready. Decide for Lock/Home Screen backgrounds or choose both and you’re done!

.

Peek at websites:

Isn’t it annoying when you tap a link in one app to open a page in Safari, and then it turns out that you don’t even want to read it?

With 3D Touch, a tap and hold on a link in any supported app will let you Peek at the webpage in a floating window above the app.

If you want to continue reading it, press firmly to Pop the page open. If you don’t, simply let go and you’re back at the screen you were on previously.

Quick communications:

Press firmly on a contact’s picture anywhere in an Apple app and you’ll open up a Quick Actions menu that lets you quickly and easily call, message or email the contact.

Try it in the Contacts app and the main conversation list view in the Messages app.
Find your way home or share your location: Quick Actions menus are one of the key elements of the 3D Touch experience, and the menu for Apple’s Maps app is particularly handy.

Press firmly on the Maps app icon and you’ll see four options, with Send My Location and Directions Home among them.

.
.

Save your oleophobic coating from 3D Touch:

Speaking of 3D Touch, there’s a downside to all this firm tapping and swiping: the oil-resistant coating on your iPhone’s display might wear off even faster than it does normally.

Go easy on your oleophobic coating by navigating to **Settings > General >
Accessibility > 3D Touch**, then scroll down to 3D Touch **Sensitivity and set it to light.**

This means you won’t have to press as hard to trigger 3D Touch actions like Peek, Pop and
Quick Actions.

.
.
The hidden trackpad:

This is definitely one of the most important tips on this list. Press and hold firmly on the
keyboard in any app to transform it into a trackpad, and then slide your finger around to control the cursor. Press even harder and you’ll begin highlighting words.

Of note, this feature only works with Apple’s keyboard and not third-party keyboard apps.

.

Camera quick-launch :

Apple stuffs more and more new features into its camera app each time it updates iOS. When you want to record a video and the Camera app opens to square photo mode, it can be annoying to swipe around and change modes.

On the iPhone 6s, simply press firmly on the
Camera app icon and a Quick Actions menu will let you open the app and immediately take a selfie, record a video, record a slo-mo video, or take a normal photo with the rear camera. Switch apps with 3D Touch:

On any screen, press firmly on the left edge of the iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus display and swipe inward toward the center of the screen to open the app switcher.

Continue swiping all the way to the right edge to immediately switch back and forth between the last open apps.

.
.

Explore:

The best tip we can give new iPhone 6s owners is to explore 3D Touch often. Firm presses on most of Apple’s preinstalled app icons will bring up a Quick Actions menu, and many third-party apps support the feature as well, so be sure to try them as well.

will continue to enhance their 3D Touch support as time moves on, which means we’ll find new features constantly. Don’t be shy, try 3D Touch in as many places as you can.

iPhone 6s – Stellar Refinements to a Snazzy Device

Can’t decide if you want to upgrade to iPhone 6S or not? Why not read our review about this new device which is now in stores in all its rosy pink glory…

As you probably know by now, the iPhone 6s went on sale this past Friday. As you also probably know, it looks nearly identical to the iPhone 6 of last year. That’s okay, though, because Apple has made some stellar refinements that separate the iPhone 6s from previous generations.

The changes may not seem dramatic, but they are a big push in a new direction and once again make Apple a major innovator of the industry.

iPhone 6s – Design and Features

Like I said above, the iPhone 6s looks almost the exact same. It weighs just a tad bit more because of new screen technology, but that’s really the only difference. This is neither a surprise nor a disappointment. I’m still a fan of the iPhone 6’s design.

Apple also doesn’t typically do radical design changes on “s” years (actually, they very rarely do radical design changes at all). The new model does have a rose gold version though, and it looks pretty snazzy.

That means the display is still lagging behind the
competition. It hasn’t even upgraded to full HD yet. All of the changes this year, minus that pretty rose gold, are all under the hood and on the software front.

Probably the biggest new feature of the iPhone 6s is the incorporation of 3D touch . This is a twist on Apple’s Force Touch tech that has been
seen in the latest versions of Mac computers.

3D Touch can recognize specific amounts of pressure, and reacts accordingly. In iOS 9 (which will launch natively on the iPhone 6s), users can gently touch the icon of any app,
such as Camera and Messages, and a quick menu will come up with common features. For the camera, you can quickly access the front-facing camera for a quick selfie.

Lightly hold the icon over the Phone app to quickly call favorite contacts. The technology will also let you take glimpses of messages and emails without entirely opening them.

This will also be great for new apps on the phone, as displayed by developers at the event. 3D Touch will create new interfaces and amazing new features for mobile games and apps.

Apple has also incorporated a new photo mode called Live Photos . A live photo is taken like a regular photo (and is set as the standard mode in the new camera), and it records the moment 1.5 seconds before and after the actual capture of the photo.

This creates a little snippet, a brief peak into that time, that actually seems really cool. Supposedly, it doesn’t take much more space than a regular
photo, but can instantly add more value. It may not be for everyone, but it looks pretty cool. Its like the moving pictures from Harry Potter.

Specs, Battery, and Camera

As always, the iPhone 6s comes packed with the latest A9 chip. In benchmark tests, it obviously exceeds those of last year, but it also comes into surprising striking range of the Galaxy S6.

In previous years, iPhones have never really stacked up to their major competitor, but that is nearly irrelevant since apps and games on iOS are usually more stable anyway. The new A9 chip should really help those wanting to play games with crazy graphics. Sadly, though, the new processor is really the only major spec boost.

The phone still comes starting at 16 GB, which is depressing considering the rest of the competition has moved on to 32 GB standards.

The battery is also disappointing. I mean, it runs just as well compared to any of the competition, but that isn’t saying much.

If Apple really wants to wow us next year, they
should really enhance their battery. After a couple of years being stuck with an 8 MP shooter,

I’m sure iPhone fans everywhere rejoiced at the sound of an upgraded camera… even if it isn’t that huge of an upgrade. The iPhone 6s comes with a 12 MP camera.

It also has enhanced sensors that are better for capturing images in low-light situations and the colors seem very natural. It looks really nice, even compared to cameras with higher mega pixels like the Galaxy S6 and Sony Xperia Z4.
u
The new camera will also be able to record in 4K. That’s pretty stellar, especially those who want to use their phone for videos. Apple has demoed a 4K video filmed on the iPhone 6s, and it looks pretty stellar.

It’s a pretty nice feature (even if the display can’t display the full quality of it).

The Verdict

The iPhone 6s may not look that different from last year, but quite a bit has changed underneath that surface. 3D Touch is a pretty amazing feature that could easily become a standard in the smartphone industry.

It doesn’t have some features other competitors have, like higher resolution displays or more storage, but it has made some real innovations that are sure to please all of the company’s fans.
